Hot and Sour Soup Recipe

This soup is awesome for cold day. The vinegar gives it a really great taste. Mushrooms are a source of minerals that we get nowhere else in nature so eat em’ up! As for what kind, we recommend shiitake.  Shiitake are super tasty, plus they are amazing for the immune system, and high in vitamin B and D.  Both great for brain function. Simple Sauerkraut Recipe

Sauerkraut is way easier to make than most people think.  It takes about 30 minutes to prepare and has to sit for 3-7 days.  We prefer red cabbage, or a combo or red and green.  When we were on the road, we made sauerkraut twice a week.  It is amazing with Japanese Sweet potatoes! Beet and Turmeric Sauerkraut Recipe

While our simple sauerkraut recipe is really simple, so is this one.  There are few more ingredients however.  This sauerkraut goes great with sausage, but also it is amazing with fried eggs. Prep: 30min Cook: 3-7 days Ingredients 1 large head of red green cabbage 1 medium yellow beet (or 1 pear) 2 carrots 2 teaspoons turmeric powder (or 2 tablespoons freshly ground turmeric root) ½ tablespoon salt 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar Instructions Cut the cabbage in half and remove 1-2 clean outer leaves. This soup is good pretty much any time at all. It is pack full of vitamins, minerals, and fibre. If you are doing a cleanse then fibre is key around day two. Feel free to play around with the spices, the cayenne pepper is of particular importance when you are cleansing. Kombucha Recipe

This recipe makes about 14 cups of kombucha.  There are a number of different sweeteners you can use for this, we have played around with all sorts from cane sugar, to blueberry based sugar to coconut sugar.  They all kind of work, but our kombucha always turns out best with just regular ol' sugar.  We aim for the organic stuff, but if cost is an issue non-organic is alright. Yogurt Recipe

This yogurt recipe makes 1 quart.  Like kombucha, yogurt is easy to make and very cheap.  You can get a yogurt starter kit from most health food stores, but we usually recommend just buying a quart or more of good quality organic yogurt and using that as your starter.  If you are luck enough, you may be able to get some yogurt from a friend who has been fermenting for a while.  For some reason, if you have had a culture going for a while it seems to work better. Prep: 15min Cook (ferment): 10-20 hrs Ingredients 1 quart whole milk 1/4 cup plain whole milk yogurt.  Organic is best.
